After Care Instructions
Your tattoo is not finished until it has healed!
The healing timeline varies from person to person, but during this time I recommend the following:
(alongside good hygiene practice and basic wound care)
What you’ll need.
Aftercare Balm (I use Dr Pickles Original Formula)
Fragrance free soap
Immediate Aftercare.
I will apply a cling wrap dressing at the end of your appointment. Leave this on for a hour or so (no more than 2 hours) post tattoo.
When you remove the cling wrap, wash the tattoo with lukewarm soapy water (hand soap is fine as long as it’s not too fragrant) until any plasma and/or excess ink is gone.
Gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel or paper towel and leave to air-dry.
Once completely dry, apply a very thin layer of after care balm to the tattoo.
No further wrapping/ cover is needed.
Continued Aftercare.
Wash the tattoo with lukewarm soapy water each morning and evening.
Apply a very thin layer of aftercare balm 2 times daily or if you notice the tattoo looks dry.
Be sure to only use just enough balm to moisturise your skin, we don’t want the tattoo to become overly moist!
Things to avoid while your tattoo heals..
Avoid direct sunlight during the healing process, do not put sunscreen or any other cream (other than aftercare balm) on the fresh tattoo. Cover with clothing instead!
Avoid soaking your healing ink, no baths or saunas - short showers are ideal to avoid a soggy scab. These can peel off easily resulting in patchy healing and ink dropping out.
Avoid swimming in public pools, exercising in communal environments/classes etc to lower your risk of infection - a tattoo is an open wound!
Sweat may irritate your tattoo and can lead to infection, make sure to wash your fresh tattoo with soapy water if you notice it becoming sweaty.
Do not pick or scratch the healing tattoo scab as this may remove ink.
